Summer Simmer Pot Recipe
Thereโs something about a simmer pot that feels like self care in scent form. While we often think of stovetop potpourri during the fall and winter (hello, cinnamon and cloves), Iโm here to say that summer deserves its own cozy moment too. Enter: this citrusy, floral summer simmer pot. Itโs fresh, relaxing, and will have your whole home smelling like a spa getaway in the Mediterranean.
The best part? Your probably already have most of the ingredients on hand, and it takes less than five minutes to throw together. Keep reading for the full recipe and how I like to customize it with my favorite essential oils from Aura Cacia.
What is a Simmer Pot?
If youโve never made a simmer pot before, think of it as natureโs air freshener, but make it chic. Itโs simply a pot of water filled with fragrant ingredients like citrus, herbs, and essential oils that you warm on your stovetop. As it simmers, it releases that most delicious aroma into the air. Perfect for those lazy summer days when youโre cleaning the house, hosting a few friends, or just need a little mood boost.
Summer Simmer Pot Ingredients
- 1-2 lemons, sliced
- 1 orange, sliced
- A handful of fresh lavender sprigs
- 5 drops ylang ylang essential oil
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
- 5 drops lemon essential oil
- Water
Tip: you can totally swap out the citrus based on what you have – grapefruit and limes would be amazing too!
How to Make a Summer Simmer Pot
- Fill a large pot halfway (or up to 3/4 full) with water
- Slice your lemons and orange, then gently crush your lavender sprigs to release their natural oils
- Add everything to the pot: citrus, lavender, and your essential oils. I do 5 drops of each oil to keep the scent balanced and light
- Give it a good stir
- Bring your pot to a gentle simmer over low heat
- Add more water as needed to keep it going throughout the day
The Vibe
The combination of citrus and lavender smells bright, clean, and super calming. The ylang ylang adds a little depth and grounding note. Itโs like walking through a summer garden with a fresh glass of lemonade in hand. And because everything is natural, you donโt have to worry about synthetic fragrances or chemicals.
