10 Tips for Building Self Confidence This Summer

Summer has a way of making us overthink. Wondering how we look in the swimsuit, whether anyone noticed the photo we didn’t love, or if people are paying attention to the things we’re most insecure about.

The truth is, they’re probably thinking about themselves FAR more than they’re thinking about you. If you’ve needed that reminder lately, here are 10 simple ways to build more self confidence and protect your peace this summer!

1. Remember That Everyone Is Thinking About Themselves

We spend so much time worrying about what other people think, when the reality is they’re usually thinking about themselves.

Once I realized that, I stopped overanalyzing every photo, outfit, and conversation. I also love to remind myself that if someone is thinking too much about you, that’s also extremely strange and probably a projection of their own internal state. 😉 This realization has helped me so much!

2. Stop Waiting Until You Feel “Confident Enough”

Wear the swimsuit. Take the trip. Get in the picture.

Don’t wait until you’ve changed something about yourself before you allow yourself to enjoy your life. 🩷

3. Speak to Yourself Like You Would a Friend

Pay attention to your inner dialogue.

If you wouldn’t say it to someone you love, don’t say it to yourself! I also find it so hopeful to recognize these sort of intrusive thoughts and name them in order to move on – something I learned in therapy that’s so helpful.

4. Move Your Body Because It Feels Good

My  clearest days start with a walk or a workout.

Not because I’m trying to change my body, but because movement helps me feel stronger, calmer, and more like myself. Adding in more weights the last year has been a game changer!

5. Spend Less Time Comparing

Comparison has a way of convincing us that everyone else has it figured out.

Less scrolling almost always leads to more peace. In the world of diet culture, ditching the scale for summer always feels really good to me!

6. Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Comfortable

Confidence starts with feeling like yourself.

Find the dress, swimsuit, or pair of linen pants that makes you feel comfortable enough to stop thinking about what you’re wearing.

7. Protect Your Mental Health

Take breaks from your phone. Spend time outside. Read a book. Call a friend.

Not everything deserves your attention.

8. Celebrate Who You Are Right Now

You don’t have to earn confidence. You don’t have to earn the right to enjoy summer. You get to enjoy your life exactly as you are today.

9. Focus on Making Memories

Years from now, you won’t remember whether your shorts fit perfectly.

You’ll remember the beach trip, the dinner with friends, the vacation, the laughter, and the people you were with.

Don’t miss those moments because you’re worried about how you look.

10. Choose Joy Over Perfection

Summer goes by so quickly. Say yes to the pool day.

Get in the family photos. Host the barbecue. Order dessert.

Life feels so much fuller when you’re present instead of trying to be perfect. I’m always reminding myself of this!

At the end of the day, confidence isn’t about becoming someone different.

It’s about spending less time worrying about how you’re being perceived and more time enjoying the life happening right in front of you.

That’s the reminder I’m taking with me this summer, and maybe it’s one you needed too. Sending you love!

XO,

Taylor ✨
